ABOUT PWMC - GUWAHATI

Plastic Waste Management Centre (PWMC) was established in the year 2008 at P.O./Vill: Borgaon (Banglagarh), Hajo Circle, Guwahati and was inaugurated & dedicated to the nation on 22nd July 2010. This centre has been established with the objectives of protecting the environment by recycling plastics waste in the North-Eastern Region, manpower development through training in the field of plastics recycling technology, to promote cost effective recycled plastics material grades for variety end-use applications, to create business and employment opportunities from waste to wealth concept in tackling the issue of plastics waste disposal and to act as a "Centre of Excellence" in Plastics Waste Management in the country.

PWMC consists of State-of-art automatic recycling plant where a universal of mechanical recycling facility will handle all types and forms of plastics materials waste such as PE, PP, PSA, ABS, PET etc. and converting into useful value added products. Plastics Scrap/Waste Collection are sources from Scrap Dealers, NGOs by the involvement of strategic partners such as local entrepreneurs and the industry associations and the recycled granules as well as value added end products would be bought back by these partners thereby making the project ultimately self-sustaining.

A novel project for collection of Plastics waste has been initiated. Two localities have been identified viz Sindorighopa & Banglagarh (from Railway Crossing Chowki Gate to PWMC). 520 Nos. of Plastics dustbins have been distributed, 2 each at every household. Villagers have been requested to store the plastics wastes in the dust bins provided to them. For this purpose, 4 local workers of PWMC have been engaged to collect the wastes from the individual houses. This way the villages will remain free from plastics wastes. The waste so collected are using as raw material for PWMC. Moreover, 10 nos. of professional Plastics waste collectors from Changsari area are also engaged for collection and supplying of Plastics Wastes to PWMC.

POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA PROGRAM

POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA IN PLASTICS PROCESSING & TESTING

Course Code : PGD-PPT
Duration : 1 ½ years

Entry Qualification :
3 year Degree in Science with Chemistry as one of the subjects.

 Selection & eligibility as per CIPET Admission Procedure.
 For admission, Please apply through CIPET JEE.
 Number of Seats - As per AICTE Intake.


A six month Machine Operator - Plastics Processing & Recycling Technology (MO-PPRT) course is being imparted at this centre.


SHORT TERM COURSES

PWMC-CIPET Guwahati conducts Short duration training programmes through Skill Development Programmes, Entrepreneurship Development Programmes, Entrepreneurs Awareness programmes, Orientation programmes in the field of Plastics Processing & Recycling Technology Besides, the Centre is conducting various short-term training programmes sponsored by Govt. & Non-Govt. organizations like Ministry of DONER, North Eastern Council (NEC), Industries Department, Govt. of Assam etc. In-plant/intensive training programmes for students of Technical Institutions are also offered. Short term courses conducted at PWMC-CIPET, Guwahati are very well accepted by plastics and allied industries in India and abroad. Successful trainees are offered placement assistance in plastics raw material conversion/ processing industries not only in India but also in South East Asia and Middle East Countries.
