DIRECTOR GENERAL’S ADDRESS DURING HALF YEARLY PERFORMANCE REVIEW MEETING AT CHENNAI ON SEP30, 2008

The transformation of CIPET as an ATR (Academic, Technology & Research) Institution is now taking shape. With the support of Administrative Ministry, CIPET has moved forward to create 4 Knowledge cum High Learning Centre at existing Institutes at Chennai, Ahemadabad, Bhubaneswar & Lucknow. These 4 Centres would be developed as the Centre of Excellence with focussing on only Doctoral, Post Graduate & Graduate programs. From the current Academic Session, we have already commenced B.Tech (Plastics Engineering/Technology) Program at Chennai, Bhubaneswar & Lucknow after getting all statutory approvals from AICTE & affiliating Universities.

It is our endeavour to complete the makeover of 4 CIPET Centres as Knowledge Centres by the next Academic Session 2009-10. We propose that CIPET’s academic activities will be divided into 4 tier structure and Centres will be specilaized for a particular tier programs – Tier I programs are High ended courses only for Knowledge Centre, Tier II- For conventional CIPET’s Diploma & Post Diploma programs, Tier III-  Would focus on Industry specific programs ,Tier IV- For operator level programs including non conventional programs. at Satellite locations or by taking over ITIs  etc.

Similarly, in the area of TECHNOLOGY, Specific Centres will be developed as Expertise Institution in the different areas of Plastics Engineering & Technology i.e.. Mould design & Development, Precision machining & CNC Machining Centre, Plastics Processing Centres with capability to process High performance & Speciality polymers etc.

For our 3rd domain- Research, already LARPM & ARSTPS have started functioning, which will be further augmented and it is expected that both R&D hubs of CIPET will soon be recognised as Global Centres for innovative research.

In addition to above, I am happy to note that CIPET centres are performing as per the expectation at the end of first six months on Fiscal front. I wish all centres will achieve the Fiscal targets assigned by Corporate & face the Fiscal challenges with exceeding the Targets in current year 2008-09, considering the fact that CIPET will have additional burden on implementation of 6th pay commission recommendations, as approved by Govt. of India”.
